needs edit Ragnor whu?
Okay so I’ve now seen Thor: Ragnarok twice. And I enjoyed it. Definitely the best Thor movie. Really funny and engaging. Hulk was my favorite part. He’s hilariously childlike and I enjoy his sense of humor. We often think of Banner as being the tragic hero, but Hulk’s life is just as sad, being squished away in the back of Banner’s head, and feared for something that isn’t truly his fault, and Sakar is the only place where he is loved for what he is. So when he yelled, “Friend stay!” to Thor, it made me really sad.
Movie Still doesn’t beat Winter Solider for sheer awesomosity but it’s a really fun film. That said, there are a couple of things that bothered me.
1. Did anyone notice how…underwhelming some of the CGI was? Not that it was horrible, just not as seamless as I’m used to. In that opening fight in the pit with Surtur, when Thor is fighting that hoard, he’s spinning his hammer and the dudes are flying backward before the hammer touched them. There are a number of CGI issues like that in the movie and it’s distracting.
2. Thor’s empty eye makeup. Yeesh. It’s not very good. You can clearly see his eyelid beneath it, and that’s just watching the DVD. It’s even worse in HD. Also, the way he lost his eye made no sense. Even if Hella stabbed him, it wouldn’t make sense, but it’s even more nonsensical because she sliced at his face and somehow caused a missing eye with a black hole that extends far around his eye socket? The movie was full of these moments.
3. Did anyone notice Loki’s eyes? In the scene where he and Valkyrie are fighting, in every close up he has one blue eye and one green eye. It jarred me and I haven’t found one single person talk about it online. There’s more light on one side of his face than the other, but even when he turns, the same eye appears green. Mayhap I’m imagining it.
4. This movie is full of hot people. It’s a visual feast. I even found Thor attractive and he usually doesn’t do it for me. The short hair though…niiiiice. Though I’d take Dr. Strange or Loki over him.
5. So the movie hints strongly that The Grandmaster and The Collector from Guardian of the Galaxy are related. Their makeup and hair are strikingly similar and mentions being thousands of years old. Also Sakar is described pointedly as, “the collection point for all lost and unloved things.” So what is the meaning of this? Does god-like powers and too many years of life, turn you into a preening, salacious narcissist with no feelings for others? Because it sure seems that way and that’s depressing.
